A brief history of the press: In 1941 the press was created as an experimental laboratory. From 1971 – 1980 it was on hiatus, but was brought back when it came into the hands of master printer Christy Bertelson. The focus of the press shifted to individual books by students, which culminated in 1986 with a new program that continues on today. Presently, the Scripps College Press collaborates with students in the Art 135: Typography and the Book Arts class to bi-annually publish limited edition books and prints.
