Spring 2019 | Exhibit

From the Margins: Social Justice & Social Practice in Book Arts

March 4 - 24, 2019

North Lobby, Honnold Library, Claremont, California

Curated by the eponymous seminar class, this exhibit featured artists' books and prints from the Denison and Honnold Libraries that incorporated personal histories, poetry, translation, and research to examine subjects ranging from violence against women; interracial and same-sex marriage; feminine sexuality and repression; banned books; and the detainment and incarceration of immigrants.

Special thanks to Denison Library Director Jennifer Martinez-Wormser and Dorran Boyle for their support of the Social Justice & Social Practice in Book Arts course and sharing many artists' books and prints portfolios; and to Claremont Colleges' Director of Special Collections Carrie Marsh, Ashley Larson, and Lisa Crane for their support in planning this exhibition and sharing artist’s books with the class.
