Spring 2018 | Unfolding New Perspectives
During the Spring 2018 semester, the students of Art 137: Artists' Books & Social Justice seminar course at Scripps College studied artists' books that presented social justice issues under the direction of Professor Tia Blassingame. The class crafted questions to ask the following artists and booksellers: Ganzeer (the Spring 2018 Frederic W. Goudy lecturer), Radha Pandey (the Fall 2017 Frederic W. Goudy lecturer), Maria Verónica San Martín, Jesse Goldstein, Malaya Tuyay, and Marshall Weber (the co-founder of Booklyn in Brooklyn, New York). The class curated the Book Arts & Social Justice exhibition at Scripps College’s Denison Library, on view from February 27 to March 19, 2018.
This exhibit featured print and bookworks that explore a wide range of social justice topics. The final project of the semester focused on a collaborative, letterpress project.
